Michael Nelson received his Bachelor of Science degree in Speech
Pathology from Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona and his Master of
Science degree in Clinical Speech Pathology from Northern Arizona University
in Flagstaff, Arizona. Mr. Nelson holds certification from the American
Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the International Association of
Orofacial Myology. He currently serves on the Board of Examiners for the
International Association of Orofacial Myology and has chaired the Membership
Committee for that organization, as well as co-chairing their Annual
Convention in Oahu, Hawaii in June 2000.
Research
activities have included a meta-analysis to quantify 'language disorder"
among school aged children; joint authoring of a patient satisfaction survey
for oral myofunctional therapy patients; and survey design and data
correlation to determine knowledge base of oral myofunctional disorders among
the dental community.
Southwest
Oral Myofunctional Specialists, a private practice specializing in the
diagnosis and treatment of oral motor and oral myofunctional disorders in the
greater Phoenix area was founded and is directed by Mr. Nelson.

Michael Nelson was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona and now resides in
Mesa. In his spare time, Mr. Nelson enjoys dining out with his wife and two
daughters and son-in-law, building and flying model rockets, and cooking.
